Supply Chain Security Management - ISO 28000
ISO 28000 Supply Chain Security Management standard has been developed to facilitate trade and transport of goods across borders. It enables organisations to effectively implement controls that address security vulnerabilities at both strategic and operational levels and to comply with local and international regulatory requirements.
The "supply chain" covers the overall process of goods being transported from the point of origin to the final destination. It covers the manufacturers, logistics, consolidators, transport - road, rail sea and air, marine terminal operators, customs agents, financial and information services, and buyers of the goods being shipped.
ISO 28000 helps all sectors of industry to assess security risks and implement the appropriate controls in order to manage potential security threats and impacts upon the supply chain.
The standard is a modelled on the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems standard. This means organisations already familiar with the risk-based approach used in ISO 14001 will be able to use a similar approach when analysing supply chain security risks and threats.
